Before you book: check the screen protector
Most Switch screens carry a tempered glass protector, and it is designed to take the impact. What looks like a cracked screen is very often a cracked protector with a perfectly intact panel underneath. Peel a corner and look. If the display below is clean, you do not need a repair at all — and if the protector saved the panel, replace it rather than the console.
- A protector costs a few dollars; a screen replacement costs a hundred or more
- If the glass is cracked but the image and touch are fine, it is usually the protector
- If you are not sure, send us a photo and we will tell you before you come in
What a screen replacement costs
It depends on which Switch you have, because the panels are different sizes and types. If you are not sure which model is yours, the model number is printed on the back of the console.
| Console | Fitted price |
|---|---|
| Switch Lite 5.5-inch LCD | C$120 |
| Switch V1 and V2 6.2-inch LCD — the same panel in both, so the same price | C$130 |
| Switch OLED 7-inch OLED panel, which costs more to replace | C$180 |
Prices include the panel, the fitting, the calibration and the 90-day warranty. V1 and V2 are the same price because they use the same screen — you are not charged more for the newer battery revision.
What we cannot promise about replacement panels
Nintendo does not sell replacement panels to independent repairers, so every repair shop fits either a salvaged original or a good-quality aftermarket panel. We use the best aftermarket we can source and we will tell you which one is going in. It will look and work correctly, but we are not going to claim it is identical to the screen the console shipped with, because it is not.
- Original salvaged panels are sometimes available — ask and we will tell you what we have
- Colour and brightness on a good aftermarket panel are very close, not identical
- Touch, pressure sensitivity and the 90-day warranty are unaffected either way
How a screen replacement works
The screen is bonded to the frame, so this is a full assembly swap rather than a glass-only repair.
-
Step 1:Confirm the model
We check the model number and the current fault, so you are not quoted for the wrong panel.
-
Step 2:Strip and remove the assembly
The console is opened and the bonded screen assembly is separated from the frame and the board.
-
Step 3:Fit the new panel
The replacement assembly is seated, bonded and reconnected, then the shell is refitted.
-
Step 4:Test everything that touched it
Display, touch across the whole surface, brightness, and the buttons on the board underneath.
Screen repair questions
The screen is cracked but it still works. Do I need to fix it?
Check the screen protector first — it takes the impact, and a cracked protector over a clean panel needs no repair at all. If the glass itself is broken and the image is fine, the panel will usually keep working for a while, but cracks spread and liquid can get in. It is a judgement call and we will give you an honest one rather than pressure you.
Do you use original Nintendo screens?
Nintendo does not supply replacement panels to independent repairers, so nobody fitting them is using new official stock. We use the best aftermarket panel we can source, or a salvaged original when we have one, and we tell you which before fitting it.
How long does a Switch screen replacement take?
Usually about two business days. The assembly is bonded, so most of the time is in the careful removal and the refitting rather than the part itself.
Why is the OLED model so much more expensive?
Because the panel costs considerably more to buy. It is a 7-inch OLED display rather than the 6.2-inch LCD in the other models, and there is no cheaper equivalent part to substitute. The fitting work is much the same.
Will I lose my game saves when the screen is replaced?
No. The screen is a display component and the storage is on the mainboard, so nothing touches your saves. A screen repair is one of the few jobs on a Switch that cannot cost you data.
Can you fix just the touch, without replacing the whole screen?
On a Switch the touch layer and the display are bonded into one assembly, so in practice the whole unit is replaced. There is no separate touch panel to swap on its own.
Send a photo before you bring it in
A photo of the crack is usually enough for us to tell you whether it is the protector, the panel, or nothing to worry about — and which model price applies.
No Fix, No Fee. Walk in at our Oakville workshop during opening hours, or send it to us.
