If you have an OLED, this is not your repair
On a Switch OLED the touch layer is bonded to the panel at the factory. Separating them destroys the panel, so there is nothing to be saved by trying — the whole screen assembly is replaced instead. That is a different job at a different price, and it is on the screen repair page rather than this one.
- The Lite, V1 and V2 all use a separate touch layer, so only the digitizer changes
- If the picture has lines, patches or a dark area, the panel is damaged too — that is a screen repair
- Send us a photo of the screen and we will tell you which of the two you need before you come in

OLED not covered
Its touch layer cannot be separated
A cracked touch layer, priced by model
Fitted prices, including the part and the labour. The row you cannot get is as important as the rows you can.
| Console | Fitted price |
|---|---|
| Switch Lite Touch layer only — the panel is reused | C$100 |
| Switch V1 and V2 Touch layer only — the panel is reused | C$110 |
| Switch OLED Touch is bonded to the panel — see the screen repair service | Not offered |
V1 and V2 are the same job at the same price: the 2019 revision changed the battery, not the display. The OLED row is blank on purpose — we are not going to charge you for a digitizer we cannot fit.
What the repair involves
Replacing a touch layer is mostly preparation. The bonding is the part that decides whether it looks factory or not.
-
Step 1:Photograph and test
We photograph the existing damage and test the touch layer across a grid of points, so we both agree what was broken before anything is opened.
-
Step 2:Strip to the panel
The touch layer sits behind the front panel, so the console is fully stripped and the panel separated. This is what makes it a bench job rather than a swap.
-
Step 3:Bond the new layer
The old digitizer is removed and the frame cleaned back to bare plastic before the replacement goes on. Old adhesive left behind shows through as bubbles.
-
Step 4:Test and hand back
The touch grid is tested again against the original fault, and the display connector is checked — it is the one thing a digitizer swap can disturb.
Before you book, check the screen protector
A surprising share of unresponsive Switch screens turn out to be a tired protector or dust trapped under it. Peel it off, clean the glass and try the touch again. If it comes back to life you have saved yourself the repair, and if it does not, you have lost two minutes.
- A cracked protector looks exactly like a cracked screen from the outside
- Trapped dust under a protector blocks touch in exactly the way a failing digitizer does
- We check this on the counter before quoting — it is not worth either of us pretending otherwise
Digitizer questions
How do I know it is the digitizer and not the screen?
If the picture is perfect and only the touch is wrong, it is the digitizer. If you can see lines, black patches, a dark area or nothing at all, the panel is damaged and that is a screen repair rather than this one. Send a photo and we will tell you which it is.
Can you replace the glass without replacing the screen?
On a Lite, V1 or V2, yes. The touch layer sits on top of the panel as a separate part, and that is exactly what this service is — which is also why it costs less than a screen repair.
Why is the OLED missing from the price list?
On the OLED the touch layer and the panel are bonded together as one assembly. There is no way to separate them without destroying the panel, so a digitizer-only repair does not exist for that model. The whole assembly gets replaced instead.
Will the console still work the same afterwards?
Yes. The panel, the mainboard and your data are untouched — only the glass and its touch layer change. Nothing about how the console plays is different.
There is no crack, but the touch has stopped. Is that the digitizer?
A digitizer can fail without visible damage, but so can a display connector or a corrupted update, and those are different and often cheaper fixes. Bring it in and we will test the touch layer before quoting — we have no reason to sell you a digitizer you do not need.
How long will you have it?
Usually two business days. Most of that is the bonding and the settling time, which cannot be rushed without risking bubbles under the new layer.
Not sure whether you need a digitizer or a screen?
Photograph the screen with it switched on and send it over. If the picture is intact we can usually tell you straight away that the digitizer is the cheaper job — and if it is not, we will say so.
